Hamilton, Bermuda (May 6, 2024) — Pina Albo, Chair of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (“ABIR”) and CEO of Hamilton Insurance Group, Ltd. (“Hamilton”) will be a CEO panelist at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“the NAIC”) 2024 International Insurance Forum. The event takes place on May 16-17, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Washington in Washington, D.C.
The forum is the flagship annual event of the NAIC, the US standard-setting and regulatory support organization, governed by the country’s state insurance regulators.
Albo has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. She joined Hamilton in 2018 and oversaw the insurer’s successful business transformation and initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2023. She is the first female Chair of ABIR, and also serves on the board of directors of the Reinsurance Group of America.
Albo will speak in the opening panel discussion, “Forecasting 2025 — Views from the C-suite”, which will touch on topics including artificial intelligence, climate risk and resiliency, and the impact of higher interest rates. She will be joined by panelists Jasmine Jirele, CEO, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, and Neeti Bhalla Johnson, President, Global Risk Solutions, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Jon Godfread, NAIC President-Elect and Commissioner, North Dakota Insurance Department, will moderate.
Albo said: “I’m honoured to participate in the NAIC’s prestigious, international event. The discussion on the technological change and evolving risks facing the insurance industry speaks to Bermuda’s strengths as a market with the talent, capital and innovative culture to find solutions to the world’s biggest emerging risks.
“I am proud to lead the latest Bermudian insurer to list as a public company, underscoring the Bermuda market’s global presence, adherence to the highest standards of international regulation, and close links with the United States.”
Also presenting at the event will be Craig Swan, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, on a panel focused on navigating the changing investment landscape; and Mark Lomas, Head of Culture at Lloyd’s of London, in a discussion on how diversity, equity and inclusion is taking shape in the insurance industry.
John Huff, CEO of ABIR and a past president of the NAIC, said: “The US is Bermuda’s largest trading partner. Since 1997, Bermuda re/insurers have paid more than half a trillion dollars in claims supporting US consumers, businesses and communities in their times of need, particularly following a natural disaster. Bermuda will continue to provide protection in a changing risk landscape, through ABIR member companies’ market-leading ability to match capital with multiple complex risks, including cyber, climate and mortgage risks.”
On the sidelines of the Forum, Albo and Huff will also meet with officials at the US Department of Treasury, Federal Insurance Office.
