ABIR Hosts Seminar for Visiting Appalachian State University Students

Hamilton, Bermuda (May 18, 2017) – The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) hosted Appalachian State University students for a 1-hour primer on how Bermuda has become one of the world’s most important reinsurance centers over the last 25 years.  ‘Helping connect Bermuda to the next generation of insurance industry professionals carries our risk innovation history forward’ said Ms. Leila Madeiros, ABIR’s Senior Vice President and Deputy Director, who led the class.  ‘We are approaching the 25th year anniversary of the reinsurance class of 1993, the real commencement of the modern Bermuda market.’

The students were taking part in the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center’s ‘International Markets’ annual May circuit to Bermuda. The emersion in Bermuda is led by David C. Marlett, the Center’s Managing Director and Faculty Director, Wilson Scholars Program.
